How to Make a Mini Accordion Notebook (DIY Guide)

Create Your Own Little Story

This is the Mini Accordion Notebook Kit, handmade and made to order 🖤

To help you follow along more easily and create your notebook successfully, I’ve prepared this detailed guide.

When you purchase this kit, it includes the following materials:

  • 24 hand-cut sheets from premium French paper, offering a smooth and refined writing experience (90 gsm with folding guides, fountain pen friendly)
  • 3 denim fabric pieces (including a spare piece for a stress-free process)
  • 2 sturdy cardboard pieces (2-2.5 mm thick, approx. 10 × 6 cm)
  • 2 paper sheets (300 gsm, approx. 10 × 6 cm)
  • 3 template guide stickers (for cutting fabric to size; includes 1 spare sticker)
  • 1 leather piece
  • A needle
  • Linen thread
  • Black elastic band
  • 1 Zagnei logo sticker
  • Step-by-step instructions

Now, let’s begin making your notebook step by step.

Tip:

1. Fold the Sheets

Fold all 24 sheets along the pre-marked lines  in a zigzag pattern. When folding, make sure  the top and bottom edges of the paper are  always aligned.

2. Connect the pages

Glue the last page of each sheet to the first page  of the next sheet using a glue stick to form one long accordion strip.

3. Attach the template sticker

Peel off one template sticker and place it on the back of the fabric.

Trace along the inner edge of  the template sticker.

4. Cut the outer shape

Cut along the outer edge of the template sticker shape, then carefully peel the sticker off the  fabric.

5. Glue the Paperboard

Apply glue to the entire inner side of the fabric and  to one side of the cardboard, including the edges.  Place the glued side of the cardboard onto the  traced area on the fabric, keeping the fabric tight,  and attach them together.

6. Wrap the fabric

Wrap the fabric tightly over the sides of the  cardboard, then press it in place.

Press the fabric at  the corners inward so the corners are fully covered.

If needed, gently trim any uneven fabric with  scissors (about 3–5 mm).

7. Make both covers

Repeat steps 3–6 to create the second cover.

8. Pierce one cover

Place the leather piece with holes on the cover  and use an awl or needle to make holes in the  same places. Make the holes small enough for  the needle to pass through.

9. Attach with thread

Attach the leather piece to the cover using the  provided linen thread and needle.
Tie a knot and trim the excess thread.

10. Cover inside

The kit includes two inner papers.
Glue one paper to the inside of each cover to  hide the fabric edges and knots and create a  clean finish.

11. Attach the pages

Glue both ends of the accordion strip to the  covers.

12. Add the Elastic Band

Slide the elastic band under the leather piece.
Pull both ends to wrap it around the notebook. Adjust the length so it fits snugly and can hook onto  the leather button.
Tie a knot, trim the excess, and tuck  the knot under the leather piece.

13. Ready to use!

Now, it's ready to use.

I hope you enjoy the notebook.
